MTSA Sponsors TANA Speaker and Lunch for Alumni and Students
MTSA will be a major sponsor for the upcoming 75th Tennessee Association of Nurse Anesthetists (TANA) annual meeting to be held October 19. MTSA is sponsoring continuing education presentations, a session break for all attendees, and a luncheon for alumni and students on Friday, October 19.
“We are pleased to sponsor double educational session on Friday afternoon to be presented by AANA President Janice J. Izlar, CRNA, DNAP,” said Jim Closser, MTSA Vice President for Advancement & Alumni. Her topics include: “What Are Appropriate Patient Selection Criteria for the Ambulatory Surgery Center?”(1:30 - 2:30pm); and “What Can The CRNA Do To Improve Medication Safety?”(2:30 - 3:30pm).
MTSA will also sponsor the Friday mid-morningRefreshment Break and Visit Exhibitors - Interactive exhibits this year to bring you up to speed on new technology, pharmacology, services for CRNA’s, and fun! TANA is encouraging attendees to bring a new toy to donate to Toys for Tots who will exhibit with us this year.
Izlar is currently chief nurse anesthetist and anesthesia administrator for the Georgia Institute for Plastic Surgery in Savannah, Ga. She served on the AANA Board of Directors since 2009, including serving as AANA vice president last year. She has also served on numerous AANA committees, and is a former president of the Georgia Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
A CRNA for more than three decades, Izlar received her doctorate in nurse anesthesia practice from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She earned her master of science degree in nursing from Columbia University in New York, N.Y., and a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. In addition, she earned a nurse anesthesia diploma from North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia in Winston Salem, N.C.
MTSA faculty and students will be well represented at the annual conference this year. MTSA adjunct faculty member John Shields, CRNA, MS, APN, will present twice. His session topics include: Monitoring the Cardiac Patient; andAnesthesia Considerations for One-Lung Ventilation. MTSA adjunct faculty Josh Baxter, CRNA, DNP, APN will present Is General Anesthesia Safe for the Cocaine Positive Patient? MTSA students’ poster projects will be displayed throughout the weekend.
TANA’s annual meeting will be held at the same location as last year which is the Embassy Suites Murfreesboro Hotel and Conference Center – located at 1200 Conference Center Boulevard, Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
MTSA Alumni and students attending the TANA meetings are invited to attend the free luncheon on Friday, October 19 at 12:15 pm. The alumni/student luncheon will be held in the Oakleigh (A) Room at the Conference Center.
